I’ve been listening to the new Life In Your Way a great deal lately and I have been thinking about the nature of Christian hardcore and metal consequently. I find the questions implicit in creating Christian hardcore and metal more and more fascinating every day. I have many friends who are staunchly Christian and they are some of the warmest and most ethically impressive people I know.
Yet, there is some tension in all of the music. There is an aggressiveness I am not sure I consider consistent with Christian idealogy, but then again what is Christian ideaology anymore? Who is not free to reinterpret the Bible as he sees fit?
Personally, I cannot be a Christian because I cannot accept professing a religion based around a book I am not prepared to take as literal truth.
I’ll have to write more on this later as I’m not in the mood to do it properly now.
