True giving, of any sort (the giving of chances, of wealth, of freedom from fear, whatever), isn't based on what the other does. If you're talking about commerce, then sure: don't give too much slack. If your generosity isn't pegged to an exchange market in your heart, then give again and again. There’s plenty of reasons to give someone a second, third and fourth chance–and more.
